Hello everyone, and welcome to my brand new website, One Day At A Time!

One Day At A Time is the new sister site to One Show At A Time. If you’re familiar with me and One Show At A Time, welcome! If you’re not, well then, welcome to this site! And as you’re here, you should also check out my other site, too.
One Show At A Time is the place where I’ve got all my writing to date, and it is a site where I share writing primarily on theatre and literature. So, what brings me to making One Day At A Time? Well, I have many things I want to write about, but One Show At A Time isn’t necessarily the right place to share that writing, the writing that doesn’t fit the theme of that page. So then the idea of a new website came into my head, along with my dear friend, imposter syndrome. For a while, the impostor syndrome won over the idea of a second website – why should anyone care about my writing and what I have to say? I’ve built a whole website about theatre and literature, so if I were to branch out…what if it failed? But ideas for more writing kept on coming and coming, the idea for the new website wouldn’t leave my head, and so at the start of this year, I vowed to myself to ignore and silence the impostor syndrome and just do it – and now here we are! So, for readers new and familiar, I believe (re) introductions are in order…

Hi everyone. My name is Leyla. I’m 28. I am a full-time paediatric nurse, and when I’m not nursing, I’m writing. Some of my writing I share, some I do not, and I keep for myself as a work in progress and use to feed my delusions that I may one day publish a fiction book. As well as writing, I have also previously done some acting and depending on the day, I describe myself as an occasional or a failed actress. I do have a lot of interests and hobbies, but my biggest passions are theatre, literature, and Formula 1. I have dual nationality – I am British born and bred (born on Friday 13th June – sorry if you’re superstitious!), my mum is British, and my dad is Turkish. I reside in the UK, despite being someone who is most happy when the sun is shining – the irony is not lost on me. I also just really love food. No, seriously. Good food makes me very happy

Now, I want to break down the details on my site a bit…why One Day At A Time? Well, like I said, I wanted something that is easily linked to One Show At A Time, but a new place I can use for much broader writing; this site was very nearly One Step At A Time because at the end of the day, that’s all we can do in life; take it one step at a time…but a friend did make me think it may sound a bit too much like a mother and baby site! But when I thought of One Day At A Time, it stuck and just felt right. I knew that’s what I had to use. Because in my opinion, that’s all life is! Not just me but all of us are getting through life the best we can, learning and growing every day; and taking everything life throws at us, One Day At A Time. It just fits perfectly and works for me.
My chosen tagline – “It doesn’t matter where you come from, as long as you’re moving forwards”. This is a quote (I believe) from Lewis Hamilton, but it’s one that really resonates with me. As I said above, I’m a big believer in always learning, growing, striving to improve and be better every day. It also makes me think that it doesn’t matter what your background may be, we as individuals are capable of anything we strive towards and put our minds to.
I also want to say a huge thank you to Lynn and Georgina Tatem for their beautiful work on my blog logo, header and background! I wanted my logo to be similar to my logo on One Show At A Time; after all, that site and my writing are kind of like my own brand, so I wanted to keep that consistency whilst still having a logo that is different enough that the two sites can still be differentiated easily. Lynn and Georgina understood exactly what I wanted for this website and gave me gorgeous results that I love seeing on the page. The logo and header perfectly encompass who I am, and therefore some of the themes of writing that you can expect to read on here.

With all that being said, hopefully, that gives you a small insight into who I am! I am so excited for this new site and the new writing I’ll be sharing here. It feels a little odd to be branching out from One Show At A Time after that being the only place I’ve shared my work for the last 6 years (how has it been that long since I started that site?!), but I’m also excited. I hope you continue to read on One Show At A Time, too, but I also hope you enjoy the writing I share on here. I’m quite proud of how far I’ve come from when I first started a blog all those years ago, when I was at school, to creating One Show At A Time, and now One Day At A Time. I have lots of writing planned, and I can’t wait to start sharing it and seeing what the future holds. So, that’s all for now, but I hope to have you all back here reading my writing soon!
